The first step in receiving traditional porcelain veneers is an initial consultation with our Woodland Hills dentist. During this appointment, you’ll discuss your goals for your smile and determine if porcelain veneers are the right option for you. Dr. Chaves will examine your teeth and take digital dental X-rays to ensure that your teeth are healthy enough for the procedure.
For more than 30 years, our dental practice has been helping patients craft 100% natural-looking smiles with truly world-class oral aesthetics.
Once you and our Woodland Hills dentist have decided that veneers are the best option for you, the next step is tooth preparation. Dr. Chaves will first scrape away a tiny amount of tooth enamel on the outer layer to ensure that the exterior of the tooth provides an ideal bonding surface for the veneer This is typically done using a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort.
Next, we’ll use digital imaging technology to take an impression of your dental arch, which will be used to design your custom veneers in the ideal size, shape, and color. In the meantime, Dr. Chaves will place temporary veneers on your teeth to protect them and give you an idea of what your final result will look like. Temporary veneers aren’t as durable as permanent veneers, so make sure to be careful with them.

Once your porcelain veneers are ready, you’ll return to John M. Chaves, DDS, for the bonding process. Dr. Chaves will remove the temporary veneers and clean your teeth. He’ll place your custom-created porcelain veneers on your teeth and check the fit and color, ensuring they look exactly as you imagined. Adjustments will be made at this stage if necessary.
Once the permanent veneers are in place, your dentist will use a special light to harden the bonding material, which secures the final veneers in place. You’ll leave the office with a brand-new, beautiful smile.
After your veneer teeth have been placed, we’ll schedule a follow-up appointment at our Woodland Hills dental office to ensure proper fit and aesthetics. To ensure the longevity of your porcelain veneers, make sure you take great care of them and return to our office for regular dental exams and cleanings.
Keep in mind that your veneer procedure may differ depending on the type of dental veneers you’re receiving, such as porcelain or composite resin veneers.
Generally, the veneer procedure takes two or three dental visits to the dentist. During the first visit, your dentist will evaluate your oral health, take impressions, and prepare your teeth for veneer placement. The second visit involves bonding your custom porcelain veneers to your teeth.
Porcelain veneers are considered a permanent cosmetic dentistry treatment. The process involves removing a small amount of enamel from your teeth to ensure a proper fit and bonding of the veneers. As a result, the process is irreversible. However, dental veneers can last for many years with proper care, but they may eventually need replacement due to normal wear and tear.
You can’t go back to your normal teeth after receiving veneers. However, veneers can be removed and replaced with new ones to improve your smile’s appearance.
